THE GLOBAL GEOPARKS NETWORK and the UNESCO GLOBAL GEOPARKS celebrate theINTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE WORLD'S INDIGENOUS PEOPLES 9th August 2021

"UNESCO Global Geoparks celebrate the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, and use this occasion to bring awareness to Indigenous Peoples within the world's Geoparks. Global Geoparks can provide a respectful place for the Indigenous Peoples of the World that honours and respects their cultural contributions, their language, customs, and their deep understanding of the natural environment. The knowledge and culture of Indigenous Peoples enrich our Global Geoparks. On this International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, Global Geoparks seek to lift up the voices of Indigenous Peoples and to celebrate their knowledge.”

On 9th August the Global Geoparks Network is launching an initiative to identify the rich diversity of Indigenous Peoples represented in UNESCO Global Geoparks around the world, their spoken and written languages, and to develop meaningful opportunities for Indigenous-led exchange of ideas and issues.
