Guy Martini is geologist with also a background and experience in anthropology. in the 80's, he is one of the founder, of the National French (and international) dynamic for Earth Science Conservation. He was President of the French Network of National Geological Reserve (1985-1995), Member of the Malvern Task Force and General Secretary of the 1st International Symposium on the Geological heritage Conservation which is at the origin of the "International Declaration of the right of the Earth's Memory" (1991). All the time involved in territories and interrelations between Art, Culture, Sciences and sustainable development, he leads one of the first European program dedicated to a territorial sustainable economical policy based on the promotion of local heritage and geological heritage (1994-1997). In 1996, after a meeting in China with Nickolas Zouros, he develops and leads a first European Program with 4 European territories to experiment and develop the concept of Geopark., program which allows the launching of the European Network of Geoparks (2000) and all the UNESCO Geopark successfull development. Guy Martini is one of the main historical founder members of the UNESCO Geopark history and evolution, he has realized a huge amount of conferences, workshop and publication on Geoparks all over the world and has directly supported the creation of numerous UGGp all over the world (South America, Africa, Asia, ..). He is today the General Secretary of the Global Geopark Network and Chairman of the UNESCO Global Geopark Council from 2016.
