The Global Geoparks Network (GGN), is a non-profit organisation subject to French legislation (the 1901 law on associations) and a non-governmental organisation, officially established in 2014.
Categories of Membership
- Institutional Members — UNESCO Global Geoparks.
- Individual Members – Global Geopark Professionals — Persons who have combined or proved professional experience in Global Geopark management (geological heritage, sustainable development, tourism development and promotion, and environmental issues).
- Honorary Members — Persons who have rendered exceptional services to the international Global Geopark community or to the GGN.
- Cooperating Members — International Organizations, institutions or persons providing substantial financial or other assistance to the GGN because of an interest in Global Geoparks and international co-operation between Global Geoparks.

PROCEDURE FOR INSCRIPTION
UNESCO Global Geoparks should submit an official application letter for membership in the Global Geoparks Network (duly signed and stamped) . The application letter should be compiled in English.
The GGN ExB decides on the application.
Individual Members
PROCEDURE FOR INSCRIPTION
Each individual wishing to become individual member of GGN should submit an application accompanied by a CV including the necessary documentation and references and a declaration for the respect of the GGN statutes, GGN Code of Ethics and GGN Operational rules and guidelines.

CRITERIA FOR INSCRIPTION
Each GGN Individual member should cover at least one of the criteria below:
- At least 4 years manager or representing geoscientist in a Global Geopark
- Member of GGN Bureau, EGN – AC, APGN – AC,
- At least 5 years combined experience in Global Geopark management, geological heritage, sustainable development, tourism development – promotion and environmental issues or proven professional experience in each of the fields of Global Geopark management, geological heritage, sustainable development, tourism development and promotion, and environmental issues in relation with Geoparks.
- At least 5 years personnel of educational, training and research institutions which are beneficial to Global Geopark activities, having received specialised training, or possessing an equivalent practical experience, in any field relevant to the management and activities of a Global Geopark.

GGN Cooperating Members
Definition of terms
According to the GGN Statutes (Article 4 Section 3 4) Cooperating Members of GGN can be international organizations, institutions or persons providing substantial financial or other assistance to the GGN because of an interest in Global Geoparks and international co-operation between Global Geoparks (Section 3.4).
This document aims to define further the issue and create the framework for inscription of Cooperating members.
Cooperating Members can be international organizations, institutions or individuals wishing to have a permanent relationship with GGN and wish to contribute financially or in kind to GGN activities on a continuous base.
Aims: Based on the increasing international reputation of GGN, the GGN seeks for high quality partners (Cooperating members) to carry out international cooperation and to support the healthy development of GGN in future.
Requirements: Cooperating members should have good understanding of the GGN philosophy, operation and activities, willing to promote the Global Geoparks concept.
GGN Cooperating members should contribute to GGN initiatives, in the GGN conferences, exhibitions, training courses and events; they must have social reputation in their fields, and good financial situation.
Categories of Membership and Membership Fees:
GGN – Cooperating members can be:
a. Individuals (Annual Fee 2.000 Euros)
b. Public Institutions such as Local Authorities, Municipalities, Universities, Museums (Annual Fee 5.000 Euros)
c. International Associations (Annual Fee 10.000 Euros).
Obligations: The GGN – Cooperating members should submit to the GGN
- an annual report with their activities related to Geoparks
- their annual fee to the GGN, by June 30 every year.
Benefits: The GGN authorizes a special logo GGN – Cooperating Member for them, this logo could be used in their own activities.
A GGN-Cooperating member can promote itself as ‘GGN – cooperating member’ of the Global Geoparks Network.
The logos of the GGN – Cooperating members can be shown up in specific GGN events.
The list of GGN – Cooperating members is issued on the GGN website.
A brief introduction or video of each cooperating member could be put on the GGN website.
Operational Steps:
- The GGN ExB decides the formation of a working group specialized on the Cooperating Members. The working group will be responsible for evaluating the application forms of the potential Cooperating members and recommend to the GGN Executive Board regarding the inscription of Cooperating members.
- A special logo for the cooperating members will be designed and agreed
- The GGN Cooperating Members working group will make the survey for potential cooperating members, starting relevant negotiations and encourage membership.
- The GGN Cooperating Members working group will evaluate the applications and make proposal to the GGN ExB.
- The GGN ExB make the final decision on any application of individual/institution/international organization to become GGN Cooperating Member.
- The official announcement of the GGN cooperating members will be made during the Geopark Conference (International or Regional) which take place in September of each year.

Each International organization, Public institution or Individual wishing to become cooperating member of GGN should submit:
- an application to become GGN Cooperating Member, explaining the interest to join GGN and the contribution to GGN. The application should be accompanied by:
- a CV including the necessary documentation and references
- a declaration for the respect of the GGN statutes, GGN Code of Ethics and GGN Operational rules and guidelines.
The GGN Cooperating Members working group evaluates the application and submits a proposal to GGN ExB.
The GGN ExB makes the final decision on the GGN Cooperating Member application.
